Strawberry, Kiwi, and Pear Green Tea

Strawberry, Kiwi, and Pear Green Tea
Makes 2 quarts

2 quarts plus 1 cup cold water, divided
12 kiwi-pear-flavored green tea bags*
1 (10-ounce) package frozen strawberries in syrup
1 cup sliced fresh strawberries
1 cup sugar

1. In a medium saucepan, bring 2 quarts cold water to a boil. Remove from heat, add tea bags, and let steep for 5 minutes. Remove and discard tea bags. Pour tea into a container, cover tightly, and refrigerate until chilled, about 3 hours.
2. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, combine frozen strawberries, fresh strawberries, sugar, and remaining 1 cup water. Bring just to a boil, stirring occasionally to dissolve sugar. Remove from heat, and let cool completely. Strain mixture through a wire-mesh strainer, discarding solids. Pour strawberry syrup into a container, cover tightly, and refrigerate until chilled, about 3 hours.
3. To serve, pour tea into a pitcher, and sweeten to taste with strawberry syrup.
