Shake Up Your Salt and Pepper Shaker Collection

Salt and Pepper Shaker Collection

As people began to travel more freely for work and vacation in cars, the souvenir industry was born. Salt and pepper shaker production saw a boost during the Great Depression when many ceramics companies needed to produce less expensive items to stay in business.

The shakers became even easier to make in a variety of shapes and sizes with the birth of modern ceramics in the early 1940s. The Salt Shakers Collector Club was founded in 1983 but eventually split into two sections in 1987—The Novelty Salt & Pepper Shakers Club and The Antique Glass Salt and Sugar Shaker Club, which are both still active national organizations today.
