The previous owners of Tobie’s new home had renovated the kitchen several years back, installing beautiful custom-made wood cabinets in the style of the British company Plain English. The skilled cabinetmakers were attentive to details such as those found in fine furniture, so Tobie wanted to keep the cabinets. Trying to incorporate some of the elements of the last kitchen into this one (since they hardly had time to tire of it), the cabinets were painted white and the floors stained a darker color. The island base was painted a dark blue.

Several old appliances were replaced, including the stove hood. Tobie proudly shares that Brian made the new hood. They installed an under-mount sink and marble was used for the countertops. To keep the white kitchen from feeling cold, Tobie added more brass to the room with light pendants and a faucet. The cabinets already had small brass knobs. “I think keeping the wood top on the island provided more warmth to the space as well,” Tobie says.
