In between raising four young daughters, owning an interior design business, and being a top home décor Instagram influencer, Erin Kern decided to add blogging to her résumé. Just over a year ago, Erin brought her nearly 235,000 Instagram followers the blog that they’d been requesting. Sharing everything from home décor styling ideas, DIY tips, capsule wardrobe inspiration, parenting posts, and more, Erin gives her followers a chance to sneak a peek into her life with her witty and fun personality.

The Cottage Journal: Your style is so light and airy with a touch of whimsy, like a shabby chic fairy-tale farmhouse! Where do you find inspiration in your home design?
Erin Kern: Aw I love this description of our home SO much! Thank you! As far as inspiration goes, I like to do things out of the box and that are a little on the “weird” side while still being relevant to my cottage farmhouse vibe. Why hang one embroidery hoop wreath on a wall when you can hang 20?! I like a statement wall, I like grouping lots and lots of like items to create a punch, and I try to keep things balanced by using neutrals in the background.
TCJ: Originally, your blog mainly focused on home design, but you’ve since ventured into more lifestyle posts about recipes, fashion, and parenting. Why did you make this transition, and can we expect to see more of this in the future?
EK: Honestly, I can’t sit still for long. Inside of me exists a “create or burst” urge that simply can’t be contained within the bounds of home décor anymore! I think beauty and inspiration can be found in so many genres, and it’s been so much fun (and scratches my very itchy creative itch!) to expand my boundaries in this way.
