TCJ: We’re huge fans of your unique blend of home décor and chic modern twist on a cottage style aesthetic. It’s like a traditional farmhouse with hints of bohemian, contemporary, and minimalism—a unique mix! You don’t use an overwhelming amount of décor, yet each room still feels full. How do you strike this balance in your design?
AA: Through the years I’ve found a love for so many styles and slowly found my own décor aesthetic to reflect what I love most. More and more, it just begins to reflect what home means to me and our family—comfortable and cozy without being overdone or too busy, I suppose. I find dramatic and special pieces that “steal the show,” and I allow them to do just that! A pair of chairs, a coffee table, etc. . . . I really only switch around my pillows, plants, or flowers. I find this so refreshing as I can still decorate, but it keeps things easy. Black accents pop nicely around here, and that has also been something I am leaning a lot toward these days.
TCJ: You’ve been in your current home for nearly 10 years now. How did you find it, and how did you know it was the one for you?
AA: It was the very first house we bought. As soon as we walked down the narrow hallway and into the sunroom, we knew this was the house for us. We were sold on all the windows and private backyard. We actually didn’t know if we would stay here this long, but it has continued to be the right fit for our family at this time, and we are thankful for such a sweet place to call home.
