When Christmas comes around, families across the United States and Europe gather to partake in a beloved tradition with a rich history—and an even richer flavor. With roots traced back over centuries, gingerbread houses have become staples of the holiday season, and these candy-covered cottages are a common sight throughout the month of December.
Possibly the best day to assemble these sweet masterpieces is December 12, which is National Gingerbread House Day in the United States. But there’s no bad time to gather the family, break out your favorite edible décor, and partake in the sweetest tradition the holidays have to offer!

Since 1992, The Omni Grove Park Inn National Gingerbread House Competition™ has showcased the very best in gingerbread art. Talented confection artists from across the country come to the historic hotel in Asheville, North Carolina, every year to have their work judged by a panel of experts, resulting in a breathtakingly magical display. This year, the competition is moving online, and the finalists will be announced daily starting on December 1, with the Grand Prize Winner scheduled to be revealed on December 12.

Alongside the virtual showcase, the hotel is offering a number of related events including an online, chef-led video series on making gingerbread. To view the competition finalists, visit the hotel on Instagram at @omnigrovepark and visit their website for more information on the competition and other events!
