In 2000 when Ben was in high school he published the first issue of his magazine, Ben’s Garden Quarterly. The old carriage house on his parents’ property became his office and where he housed his printer that he describes as “bigger than my parents’ refrigerator and sounded like a plane engine.” Ben claims one of his first big breaks was meeting with the buyer of Anthropologie and getting an order. It wasn’t six months until they bought all his designs. Ben was using a traditional French technique of decoupage, applying floral images or words of wisdom to glass with paste and a brush. He would then add felt to the back of the piece and sign.
