David’s studio is cool, dark, and moody in all the right ways. When he paints he is surrounded by a collection of favorite books, the sounds of Classical and Americana music, the smells of French press coffee, and treasures he has accumulated for years from family, antiques shops, and flea markets. “It totally reflects me because I love every little piece in there. It’s not just stuff, it’s things that really mean something to me. Even that crazy wildebeest,” David says with a laugh. “Environment is everything to me.” Many artists favor white walls and bright natural light so they can better see color. And while it may go against tradition, having a studio that reflects all of the things David loves brings something special to his work.
