WHAT TO DO:

Visitors who enjoy spending their days biking, hiking, or on the water will find an abundance of opportunities for connecting with the land among verdant views and bountiful wildlife, while a more manicured experience can be found at the Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park. After taking in all of the breathtaking vistas, put on your shopping shoes and explore the local offerings in the Railroad Square Art District, which comes to life on the first Friday of each month with live music and open galleries. History buffs will want to pay a visit to Tallahassee’s numerous commemorated sites and museums, including the Goodwood Museum & Gardens, where moss-wrapped live oaks cast shade on structures dating back to 1835.

WHAT TO EAT:

After a full day of taking in the sights, refuel at one of Tallahassee’s locally sourced restaurants, like Backwoods Crossing, a farm-to-table eatery run by brothers Jesse and Tyler Rice. Enjoy fresh fruits, veggies, seafood, and more provided by local farmers as well as the Crossing’s own farm, and be sure to try something off the Garden Creations menu, which changes every week. For a true taste of the local cuisine, make the drive to the historic Bradley’s Country Store to pick up their famous country-smoked sausage—and to see this fourth-generation family-owned store that offers a glimpse back into the 1920s.
