According to Gregor, “This cottage and other cottages nearby housed cast members.” And as they refurbished, they found packing crates used by set builders and old papers with theatre news and stories dated 1942. Their goal in reclaiming the cottage from the squirrels was to create a haven where they “stepped out of a busy life, creating a casualness and peacefulness.”

The house was basically a living room with extensions on each side creating a sleeping space, a kitchen, a dining room, and a bathroom, and they retained that layout. Furnishings included family pieces and treasures found at local antiques shops but nothing too precious. “There’s a sign along the highway,” according to Gregor, “that says ‘Maine, the way life should be,’ and I think that’s what we’ve created here in our beautiful place by the sea.”
