This Guesthouse Is a Blend of Modern and Rustic Styles

Floors throughout the upper level are wide plank stained oak, and reclaimed hemlock ceiling beams add architectural detail and warmth to the space. The kitchen is efficient in design, with deep oak drawers allocated for different culinary items. The dining table has tailored linen slipcovered chairs on one side and a low-profile tufted bench on the other. The table also doubles as an island.

The living area has simple tailored furniture. A mix of contemporary takes on traditional lines, like a cream linen sofa with nailhead trim or a pair of charcoal linen swivel armchairs. And the 150-pound teak coffee table makes a strong sculptural statement. “Multifunctionality is important in a smaller space,” Marie says. “The ottomans also work as seating or side tables as needed.”
