Vintage Mountain Cottage

kitchen

The sloped ceiling of the original cottage is too low for standing in a kitchen work area, but works well for the eating area. Note how the artwork is hung at eye level for diners seated at the table. Whimsy works as a counterpoint to some of the starkness of the finishes in historic homes. Here, the soft butter wall color, country collectibles, and chintz fabrics add a slight and welcome playfulness to the interior. The built-in bench seating saves space, and space is a luxury in cottage living. The bench eliminates the need for room to pull out chairs, and provides extra storage underneath.
